Newsletter: June 2023

Greetings, everyone!

As summer approaches, many of us are getting ready for our summer holidays. Whether you're aiming to achieve a beach-ready body or simply want to increase your fitness for an active vacation instead of lounging by the pool, now is the time to kick your training into high gear. Time is of the essence, with only a few weeks/months away.

Speaking of the warm weather, we know that training in a hot gym can be challenging. But fear not, because we have an exciting surprise in store for you this summer! Click the newsletter pictures below to uncover the new discovery our team has made in the gym. Trust us, it's something you won't want to miss.

Kickboxing Classes

Assistant Instructors:

Assistant instructor Klaudia will not be continuing her role as her school work has ramped up to the point she is spread a little too thin. Moving forwards she will continue in the classes when available and when the opportunity arises once school work has relaxed come back to her role as assistant instructor.

Also due to unfortunate circumstances Tuesday night assistant instructor will not be able to continue with the role. He plans to continue training at the EKA where and when he can.

EKA Fans:

During the winter (which was only a few months ago, and we’ve been hitting high 20s recently) the team made a discovery when one of the heaters stopped working. This heater has not had any issues in the 14 years EKA has been open and has had regular checks from a service team hired by the landlords.

Well, this time we figured we would have a quick look – why not it can’t be that hard to fix? Well, we didn’t fix it but noticed a switch that said winter mode and summer mode. This entire time during those summer months when it would get a little sweaty ion the gym - there was a giant fan just sitting there not being used. Facepalm moment there.

Fight Club:

May's fight club was a resounding success! We were thrilled to see the turnout increase by two, with a total of 17 participants booking their spots. The fights showcased some impressive skills, with great points fighting, light continuous rounds, and excellent adherence to sparring etiquette. Participants demonstrated the perfect balance of speed and power.

Mark your calendars for our next fight club, scheduled for June 24th. Given the growing popularity of these special classes, we recommend securing your spot early as they tend to book up quickly. Don't miss out on the opportunity to be part of another exciting and challenging event!

EKA Challenge:

May's challenge brought forth an interesting revelation about our younger members at EKA: the art of jumping knee strikes proved to be quite challenging for them. With the rule of jumping as high as possible, it seemed like some of these little ninjas were defying gravity with their impressive scores. However, upon closer examination, we noticed some instances of dodgy counting.

Taking these factors into account, we have made the decision to void this month's challenge. Instead, we are delighted to declare Ryan as the honorary winner for his outstanding performance and dedication.

Member Mention:

We are thrilled to dedicate this month's shoutout to Eduard Covoran, who has demonstrated an exceptional level of dedication to his training, a genuine passion for the sport, and an infectious enthusiasm that resonates with fellow members of the EKA. Eduard's unwavering commitment is evident through his consistent attendance at classes, attending twice a week. As a result of his efforts, he has masterfully honed his red belt kata, noticeably increased his confidence in sparring, and showcased significant advancements in his overall technical skills. Eduard, your progress thus far is remarkable, and it is evident that you possess immense potential. We eagerly await the exciting future that lies ahead for you. Keep up the outstanding work!

Elemental Kickboxing Leeds Day/Night Out

We would like to remind you about the exciting EKA Events taking place on June 10th. Our day event, open to both kids and adults, will be held at Jump Inc., providing the perfect opportunity to have some fun and let off steam.

For our adults-only night event, we have planned a fantastic gathering at Roxy Ball Room on Merrion Street, starting at 19:00. This is a wonderful chance for everyone to relax, mingle, and meet other club members whom they may not have had the opportunity to connect with before.

Please remember that the night event is exclusively for adults, and we apologize to our younger members who will have to wait a few more years before joining us.

We look forwards to seeing you there.
