My Journey into Fitness at EF and EKA

Fitness Journey

Sanaa Khan's Fitness Journey

I have recently become a part of the Elemental Fitness and Kickboxing Team as a martial arts instructor and personal trainer. Just so you can get to know a bit about me and what you can expect from me over the coming months I have written a short blog.

I always wanted to find that one hobby that was my thing, so one day I googled ‘Martial Arts in Leeds’. The first result that appeared was Elemental Kickboxing. I thought perfect I’ll go to a session and see what it’s like. So, 4 years ago, at the age of 14 I turned up to one of David’s Tuesday classes and stood right at the back in the corner not really speaking to anyone.

"Slowly I made my way towards the front of the class as I grew in confidence"

That corner seemed to be mine for the first few weeks as I was comfortable standing there observing and learning, however I soon realised that I need to get comfortable with being outside of my comfort zone as this was the only way to grow. Slowly I made my way towards the front of the class as I grew in confidence and met club members who were extremely helpful and friendly.

My confidence grew as did my kickboxing abilities. I eventually graded for my white belt which was one of my proudest moments, this was the start of my journey. I already knew what giving up felt like so I thought let’s see what happens if I don’t give up and really dedicate my time and effort into martial arts. Since then, 4 years on I have gone onto competing at the World Karate and Kickboxing Championships (WKC), taken on a charity MMA fight for Cancer Research and become a qualified gym instructor and personal trainer.

"a black belt is a white belt who never gave up!"

I am going to be grading for my black belt soon under David Kenyon (4th Dan black belt) and I have never felt more excitement and determination to achieve this. For anyone who is starting out or part way through their journey just remember that a black belt is a white belt who never gave up!

I am hoping to bring a fresh insight in to Elemental Fitness and begin by running boot camps every Saturday morning. I am also hoping to expand out and begin taking on personal training clients.

I would say my key strengths are weight training, both strength and endurance, martial arts, flexibility and fun!
